Murphy
So it has been a while since there were any updates or
new material and that is because of one main reason... there wasn't anything
new to post or write about!
This season hasn't been a success and tree days ago it
ended earlier than expected...
March=Shred month
The season of 2013 was promising... Didn't have much
lessons to follow at the University so I could make a lot of trips to the
mountains, physical good shape and most important a good mind-set.
So March was going to be the shred month... I was
going to participate in 2 Chill&Destroy contests, 1 week filming at
"The Hideout", Zinal freeride and Mountain Hollywood IV the first
week of Easter holidays.
But at the beginning of March, Mr. Murphy brought me a
visit... Parotitis or Mumps. The viral infection caused an inflammation of my
pancreas aswell. As a result: 3 weeks of illness, 40°C fever, -7
kilograms and didn't make it to the Chill&Destroy contests nor to "The
Hideout".
Zinal freeride
After the viral infection there wasn't much left of my
good shape I had earlier and neither of the good mind-set. This became very
clear to me when I participated in the "Zinal Freeride" competition
that took place the week after my illness. After the first run I felt
completely empty, my legs were shaking and this was not caused by cold! Still I
was glad to finish 3 out of 4 runs. Didn't take much risk because I knew I
wasn't physically able to stick drops or tricks in my runs.
So I ended at spot 72 in the international ranking and
number 9 of the Belgian ranking (Belgian championship freeride). Not quite a
satisfactory result...
Lucky!... or not?
Just one week after Zinal Freeride it was Easter
holiday. Like every year, the first week of Easter, it is time to be creative
and make an awesome movie clip for the video contest "Mountain
Hollywood".
Tree days before the holidays started I received an
unsuspected invite for the Belgian championship freestyle ski in Les 2 Alpes
(Snowjam) the second week of Easter. I arranged transport, hotel etc... so
after 1 week Mountain Hollywood in Montafon I would travel to Les 2 Alpes in
France...
But that was before Mr. Murphy showed up for the
second time...
The first day of filming with our Mountain Hollywood
team we decided to stay in the valley and do a street session because of the
bad weather. We found a nice dirt gap so we started hitting it. At my third
jump it went wrong. I jumped a 360 over the dirt gap... when I landed some of
my teeth wanted to make a love declaration to one of my knees. Unfortunately
for them the love wasn't mutual and 2 teeth broke. My knee also got damaged in
the love fight and had to be stitched.
So after a half hour skiing, 2 taxis and 1 airplane
I'm back home and unfortunately I had to cancel Snowjam as well.
So this happening was the end of a season which I hope
will be a lot better next year.

Laax Trip
Last week we decided to go on a short trip to the mountains. At first we didn't know where to go... Stubai, Hintertux or Laax? Last minute we decided to go to Laax in Switserland. The resort wasn't entirely open yet but at first sight the weather forcast was quite good and 2 parks were already open.
So on saturday night we took off heading for Switserland but we didn't make it to the Swiss boarder that easy! On the road in Germany our car broke down so we lost 5 hours waiting for a replacement car.
As if that wasn't enough...
But still we had a great time between the trees, at the freestyle academy and with the super friendly people from Laax.
Laax, we will certainly be back this season! ;)

We received a 120 euro penalty from our dear friends, the Austrian customs, at the boarder cause we hadn't bought a vignette for the replacement car.
Finally we arrived in Laax at 1 Pm instead of 6 Am, tired and cranked by the Austrian customs, we left our bags in the car, switched outfits and went straight to the slopes. And there we got our reward for the efforts we had to make... POWDER!
From the second we arrived it started dumping and it didn't stop for 3 days, day and night! As a result all the parks were closed and the majority of lifts were closed as well.
But still we had a great time between the trees, at the freestyle academy and with the super friendly people from Laax.
Laax, we will certainly be back this season! ;)

1st place in photo contest

Mountain Hollywood III: The Result
Mountain Hollywood III has finished and wow... what an ending! We won the video contest wohuuuuuuuuuw!!! Our video was awarded with "The best movie".
After 2,5 days of good weather we had to deal with grey and rainy days for the rest of the week. The footage we've made during the week was put toghether by our cameraman Stijn Theus combined with a high amount of Red Bulls and 2 sleepless nights...

Tignes
Still one week to go in Tignes! Had only a few good park days last week because of the weather conditions. I rode the Dynastar Distorers for the first time and they are really park machines! Today some features of the X Games opened... Hopefully I'll be able to take some good shots of it in the days to come. In the meantime some pictures I took last week.

SIP Sarah Burke
Sad news spread into the freestyle community around the world. Sarah Burke, 29 year old female freestyle skier died after having an accident 9 days earlier during a training run in a superpipe contest. Always very sad to lose an icon in the sport. Lots of strength for her family during these difficult times...

Das ist freiheit
Video submitted for video contest Mountain Hollywood II (2011) by Private. The concept of Mountain Hollywood is silmple: ten participating teams consisting of 1 cameraman, 1 pro rider, 3 amature riders during one week filming! At the end of the week each team hands in their video. The winning teams are based on the scores given by the teams and a jury. At the end we were stoked to win the price for "Best riding". Later on we received the"Public Price" for the video with the most Facebook likes !
